Martin K. Morrissey Martin Morrissey was born September 25, 1959 in Rock Island, Illinois. He graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island, then obtained his undergraduate education at the University of Illinois. While attending the University he studied for one year in Europe pursuant to the University Foreign Exchange Program. He received his B.A. degree in 1982, magna cum laude. Mr. Morrissey obtained his J.D. from Southern Illinois University in 1985 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year. While attending Law School he was an Associate Editor of the Law Journal and Captain of the National Moot Court Team. He achieved partnership at Reed, Armstrong in 1992. He has tried over seventy civil jury trials. For a period of seven years, from 1988 through 1995 he successfully defended to verdict twenty-seven consecutive jury cases, nineteen of which constituted not guilty verdicts. He practices in the areas of personal injury, death, vehicular negligence, construction accidents, premises liability, sports liability, malpractice, general liability, products liability, insurance law, defamation, class actions and commercial torts. Mr. Morrissey is active in both the state and federal courts. Significant appeals cases include Wakeford v. Rodehouse Restaurants, 154 Ill. 2d 543 (1993) and Maple v. Gustafson, 151 Ill. 2d 445 (1992). A recent case tried to verdict involved the premises liability defense of a Paintball Park business in relation to a plaintiff’s serious eye injury. The case was defended in Madison County, Illinois over the course of eight days and plaintiff claimed over 2 million dollars in damages. The jury rendered a not guilty verdict after one hour of deliberation. Mr. Morrissey is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, Madison County Bar Association, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel and American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He served as President of ABOTA, Missouri/Southern Illinois Chapter for 2004, and now serves on the national Board of Directors of ABOTA.
